I fell in love with Scrivener for Windows earlier this year. It’s a great app in that it collates everything to do with your novel into one place. It’s highly customizable. It allows you to move scenes around with ease. It tracks meta-data for each scene in a number of different views.
What’s more, the Scrivener development team promised a major release and update for Windows users, to bring them up to the same level of functionality Mac users have enjoyed for some time.
What wasn’t to love?
Well, the roll-out of version 3 was promised in Q2 of this year. Hasn’t happened yet.
Plus, Scrivener is only located on your primary writing device. Want to check something out when you’re away from that device? You’re out of luck. Want to share a part of your work with a collaborator? You’re out of luck. Want to join a group that meets at a coffeehouse but your primary device is a PC? You’re out of luck.
The world is moving on to a cloud-based approach. The ability to access your writing and notes together, anywhere, any device off the cloud would be spectacular.
