As a beginning writer, I’ve struggled with describing my story ideas. After research, thought, and effort around the definitions of idea, concept, premise, synopsis, and theme in writing, I discovered a solid concept, premise, and synopsis can help me craft the story more robustly.
I came up with the following premise and synopsis for Salvage:
Premise
In a futuristic space-faring society, a girl with a dangerous ability to sense derelict ships in space struggles to survive against disbelief, confinement, and exploitation.
Synopsis
Dreams of lost space derelicts start haunting a young girl as her family travels to a new world, hoping for prosperity. The nightmares cause problems for her family with other travelers on the packed transport. When disaster strikes, she realizes the ships of her nightmares are real.
